The annual prescription drug takeback is set for this Saturday in Malone. The DEA and Malone police are asking you to drop off any old prescriptions that are just sitting in your medicine cabinet. Kinney Drugs on Main Street is the drop-off location. The drug take back runs from 10 until 2 this Saturday. Last September, Americans turned in 309 tons of expired, unused or unwanted prescriptions. Police Chief Chris Premo says getting rid of the old medicines helps cut down on abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription durgs are obtained from family and friends, many times stolen out of a medicine cabinet. And throwing the pills away or flushing them down the toilet can actually be a health hazard long-term, by putting those drugs into the water system.
