One of the final barriers in creating a joint ambulance district with the towns of Burke, Belmont, and Chateaugay was cleared Wednesday, when the Bellmont Town Board unanimously voted to authorize the creation of the Northern Bellmont Ambulance District. The district will be paid for through taxes levied based on a property’s assessed value. The new district is aimed at tackling a problem caused by volunteers who cannot often respond to emergency calls during the day. It will be staffed by paid professionals, so someone will always be immediately available.
