Plan­ning to take a trip next year? You won’t be able to use your dri­vers license as a valid form of ID to get through secu­rity. New York is one of sev­eral states that’s con­sid­ered “non­com­pli­ant” with the REAL ID Act. The new rules will go into effect some­time in 2016, although an exact date hasn’t been announced. The gov­ern­ment says they’ll give peo­ple a three-month for­give­ness period, after which you’ll need to bring a form of ID that is compliant…like a pass­port, mil­i­tary ID or DHS trusted trav­eler card. You can also use an Enhanced Driver’s License if you have one to travel reg­u­larly into Canada.
