Planning to take a trip next year? You won’t be able to use your drivers license as a valid form of ID to get through security. New York is one of several states that’s considered “noncompliant” with the REAL ID Act. The new rules will go into effect sometime in 2016, although an exact date hasn’t been announced. The government says they’ll give people a three-month forgiveness period, after which you’ll need to bring a form of ID that is compliant…like a passport, military ID or DHS trusted traveler card. You can also use an Enhanced Driver’s License if you have one to travel regularly into Canada.
